The plant produces large, semi-doubled flowers in a striking purple shade, with magenta-red centers that bloom continuously throughout the summer. With its limitless landscape potential, Purple Pillar® is ideal for narrow hedges, privacy screens, formal gardens, entryways, and decorative containers, offering a bold and elegant display wherever it’s planted.

Customers praised this hardy shrub for arriving healthy with "vigorous new growth" and quick blooming. Most plants shipped well-packaged and thrived after planting. However, some concerns included reseeding invasiveness, occasional small plant size for price, bacterial blight susceptibility, and branch dieback issues in certain cases.

The website said the one gallon plant would be somewhere between 6” and 24”. I expected to get a 6” stick that wouldn’t match my three other purple pillars. I received a healthy, very full 24” plant that bloomed the day after I put it in the ground.

Beautiful and thriving!! Thank you for sharing your photo with us!

I bought three of these. I thought they would be shipped dormant but when they arrived they had new leaves already growing. They were in great condition.

I purchased two varieties of rose of sharon. They had been trimmed a but for shipping, but in days of going in the ground they took off and had their first flowers in about a week. They are still going strong. Ordering more next year.

Beautiful BUT it’s reseeding and making babies everywhere! I thought purple pillar wouldn’t be invasive like the older varieties of rose of Sharon but it has become a problem in my zone 7 Virginia yard. It’s even popping up all over the lawn.

Way to small and underdeveloped for the price. My mistake and won’t shop again.

One is gorgeous, the other one, same color and type I purchased does not have the same color to the leaves but is growing nicely just the same. I am guessing sun versus shade os the situation

We went through the sleep and creep years a d our third leap year is so disappointing. All last years branches are dead and new growth is energy from the base. It is only about 19 inches tall. Our other Rose of Sharon has new growth about 2/3 of the way up last years branches. I know they are different cultivars bit the all dead pillar just does t seem correct.

Thank you for sharing. We're sorry to hear this and are happy to help! Please respond to this email with photos of your plant's current conditions and we can make some suggestions to help your Purple Pillar® Rose of Sharon grow. :)

The plants arrived in great condition and already had some blooms on it. I kept it inside for a few weeks because we were having extremely high temperatures. It's still hot here but I acclimated the plants slowly, increasing the amount of direct sun each day till I felt like they could tolerate their permanent location. I finally planted them last week but still provided some shade till our heat wave is over and they are doing great. They are putting on new growth and new blooms. They will be gorgeous in the garden as they mature. Love PWD! I can never find the plants I want in my area and PWD always has strong, healthy plants and a good selection.

The plants grew beautiful until last summer when a bacterial blight appeared on the bottom leaves and branches. These plant needs to be planted where it can receive good air circulation. Water directly to the soil and not on the foilage. My remedy this season is strip the lower branches. There is no chemical treatment.

We received our 6 purple pillar rose of Sharon plants a few days late, due to red flag alert fire danger shipping delay. We watered and began planting the following day. Fortunately, the weather had cooled. The next day a few of the plants had started booming! The plants were just about dry when they arrived but look very lush and healthy, about 3 feet tall. Very pleased!

Haven’t planted them yet but have 2 blooms! Love the color and the fact they won’t spread like other Rose of Sharon. Arrived a little beaten up looking. Stems had been recently been trimmed and there were yellow leaves. But the plant is recovering nicely.

The Purple Pillar Rose of Sharon plants we received was well packaged and in great condition when we received it. I was concerned about the shipping because we live in the coast in Florida and it has been very hot. We planted it the day after we received it and it has already bloomed and has more buds ready to open. The blooms are beautiful. Very happy!
