'Sweet Summer Love Clematis' from Proven Winners® has it all: the flowers, the fragrance, the sturdiness, the ease of growth and the drama for your garden. Cranberry-violet blooms start in July in the Midwest and Northeast and last until mid-September.

  • 10-15 feet tall and 6-10 feet wide at maturity
  • Hardy in zones 4-9, be sure to check your USDA zone to ensure success
  • Plant in part to full sun (4+ hours daily)
  • Space plants 6-10 feet apart for best results
  • Produces fragrant cranberry-violet flowers throughout summer
  • Maintains green foliage spring through frost
  • Blooms on new wood
  • Great for landscapes, containers, fences, trellis
  • Long blooming

Care: Best in full sun or light shade, keep base and roots completely shaded. "Feet in the shade, head in the sun" is a saying you may have heard for successfully growing clematis, so plant it where the vine gets sunshine, but the roots stay cool. You can accomplish this with mulch, or by shading the root zone with a nearby shrub or perennial. Hard prune to 2 feet in spring as new growth emerges. Leave at least two pairs of buds on each stem.  Fertilize with Proven Winners Continuous Release Plant Food in spring and mid-summer.

Can't wait to see this one bloom! Arrived in good packaging and mature enough to begin to train up the gutter trellis. Looking forward to seeing it in springtime bloom. Will bring a lot of color to the far end of the garden.

Good, not all delivered at the same time and much smaller than the ones I bought at the nursery one month prior

You guys have this down to a science! The packaging and security of the individual plants is quite impressive. Nothing that you can do about the delivery guys not being alert enough to read the bold “THIS SIDE UP!” On every conceivable surface. Duh. I could read it as they walked up the driveway. I pointed it out and let them know for their next delivery…

Thank you for sharing!! Enjoy your shrubs :)

The plant is alive and in an unheated greenhouse until spring. So far, so good.
