Gardeners around the world have been growing lavender for centuries for its intensely fragrant flowers, beautiful appearance, and ease of culture.

Along comes Sweet Romance®, destined to become a favorite because of its ability to bloom the first year. Additionally, it begins to flower a bit earlier in the season, typically in early summer and lasting into early fall.

The grey-green foliage forms a compact mound topped with plump, rich violet purple flower wands that are perfect for cutting for fresh and dried bouquets. Clusters of tiny flowers appear at the nodes up the stem in addition to the terminal inflorescence, adding color down into the plant.

  • 12-18 inches tall and wide at maturity
  • Hardy in zones 5-9, be sure to check your USDA zone to ensure success
  • Plant in full sun (6+ hours daily)
  • Space plants 12-18 inches apart for best results
  • Produces fragrant blue-purple flowers from spring through fall
  • Maintains fragrant silver-green foliage from spring to frost
  • Great for borders, containers, cut flowers, dried flowers, edges, landscapes, and mass planting
  • Attracts bees and butterflies while resisting deer and rabbits
  • Heat and drought tolerant

Care:  Requires well-draining soil. Shearing back the foliage in early spring will rejuvenate plants and stimulate new growth. Fertilize with Proven Winners Continuous Release Plant Food in spring.

Customers praised the fragrant blooms and healthy arrival condition, with many noting "wonderful" packaging. However, shipping concerns emerged as some plants arrived dry or scorched, leading to inconsistent survival rates. While most thrived after planting, several customers reported plants dying despite proper care. Fast shipping and customer service were highlighted positively.

Sweet Romance® Lavender (Lavandula angustifolia)

I’ve wanted this variety of lavender to work so badly! I’ve tried in ground and in planters with no success. It’s such a fussy plant! I have researched its specific needs; I planted in well-draining soil, full sun, and sheltered it from being overwatered, and have had zero luck. Out of 12 Proven Winners sweet romance lavender from different nurseries, including here, none of them are thriving. I refuse to spend more money on lavender.

Thank you for sharing your review of your Sweet Romance® Lavender. We're sorry to see this! We're happy to replace it or issue store credit if you wish. :) Please respond to this email and let us know which works best for you!

I ordered 6 quart sized sweet romance lavender. For the most part they are doing quite well. I’m looking forward to a nice purple hedge. Small but getting fuller every day. Would have given them 5 stars EXCEPT 1 out of the 6 is close to death. It was very weak and sparse to begin with but I was hoping it would bounce back in the ground. Unfortunately no matter what I do it seems like it’s been on its way to death since I got it. Hopefully the dying plant isn’t a sign of what I can expect in the future.

Sweet Romance® Lavender (Lavandula angustifolia)

I received my Sweet Romance Lavender plants in good shape and without wilt in the new white biodegradable plastic pot which says to just plop in in the ground and water as usual. Well…..
I planted several in the white plastic pots and others extracted from the pots and into the ground. A month later I had to take the ones in their pots out because they were not doing as well as those planted without pots. I noted dry spots in the rootball of those in pots in spite of identical watering and location. Those pots inhibited absorption from surrounding ground moisture. I strongly cautioned against planting in pots as suggested on planting instructions. I’m lucky I didn’t lose any.

Thank you for sharing. May we ask if you removed the tabs on the bottom of the pots before you planted them?

When it arrived it didn’t look very good. When I went to plant it and break the tabs from the bottom of the pot there was a slug inside. I removed it but the plant did not live

The six Sweet Romance Lavender plants I purchased in the quart size containers are still struggling after about 6 weeks of having them. They were packaged well but arrived completely dry and I wasn’t sure any of them would survive. I planted and watered them the day they arrived and it looks like the roots may be okay as new growth is pushing up through the old dry stuff. Time will tell.

The plants are beautiful except 1 poor plant that lost a lot of soil around the roots in transit. It’s still has small amount of living plant so hopefully will survive.
