Bring non-stop violet-blue color to your summer landscape with Rockin'® Playin' The Blues® II Salvia! This high-performance hybrid salvia produces brilliant spires of true-blue blossoms that bloom continuously from late spring straight through to the first fall frost. As individual petals complete their cycle and drop away, the deep indigo-blue calyxes underneath remain fully intact on the stems. This keeps the entire flower spike looking rich, colorful, and completely full long after typical blooms fade, dramatically enhancing its overall floral presence in garden beds and patio containers.
- 24-28 inches tall and 14-18 inches wide at maturity
- Annual except in zones 7-10, be sure to check your USDA zone to ensure success
- Plant in part to full sun (4+ hours daily)
- Space plants 24-36 inches apart for best results
- Produces blue-purple flowers during planting to hard frost
- Maintains green foliage spring to frost
- Great for containers, cut flowers, landscapes, mass plantings
- Attracts bees, butterflies, hummingbirds and resists deer
- Continuous blooming, deadheading not necessary, drought tolerant, fall interest, heat tolerant, long blooming, reblooming
Care: You can easily trim to keep the shape or size where you want it, and it will branch out and become even thicker and more full of flowers. Regular watering and fertilizing will keep the plant at maximum color and growth but it is amazingly tough and once established in a pot of the garden will tolerate lower levels of food and water. However, severe drought will cause lower leaves to drop and if this happens give it a quick haircut removing the upper 1/3 of growth and once it back to normal watering it will fill back in.
