Hot Chana® Japanese Maple - Moody color. Fuss-free care. Bold garden presence. Hot Chana® offers the rich, refined look of a high-maintenance Japanese maple—without the actual maintenance. Grown on its own roots (not grafted like many others), this standout selection is easier to grow and more reliable in a variety of conditions.

In spring, its finely textured foliage emerges in a bold, bright red before softening to a smoky red and eventually deepening to a dark, dusty green. New growth continues through summer, keeping the color fresh and dynamic. Come fall, the entire tree lights up in vivid red once again, bringing the season to a spectacular close. With its ever-changing color and elegant form, Hot Chana® deserves a prime spot in your landscape.

  • 8-15 feet tall and 4-6 feet wide at maturity
  • Hardy in zones 5-8, be sure to check your USDA zone to ensure success
  • Plant in part sun to full sun (4+ hours daily)
  • Space plants 4-6 feet apart for best results
  • Maintains gorgeous foliage from spring to fall that shifts from dark red to muted red and finally dusty green throughout summer before the entire plant blazes red in the fall
  • Great for borders, containers, landscapes, mass planting or as a focal points
  • Fall interest, foliage interest

Care:  Fertilize with Proven Winners Continuous Release Plant Food in spring and mid-summer. Regular pruning is not recommended. It maintains its most handsome natural habit without much shaping. Dead or damaged wood can be removed at any time, just cut back to a set of leaves.
