Your search for a colorful, versatile, easy to grow shrub for your landscape ends at Double Play Blue Kazoo Spirea. Its cool blue foliage emerges in a range of shifting hues through the season: red, pink, purple, and green. In early summer, very large white flower clusters appear. Like other spirea, you can count on Double Play Blue Kazoo to look great while needing minimal care. It grows well in lightly shaded conditions (four to six hours of sun or filtered light all day), and is generally unbothered by deer. Not fussy about soil or watering.
- 2-3 feet tall and wide at maturity
- Hardy in zones 3-8, be sure to check your USDA zone to ensure success
- Plant in part to full sun (4+ hours daily)
- Space plants 2-3 feet apart for best results
- Produces tightly packed, white flower clusters in late spring through early summer
- Maintains colorful foliage that develops from burgundy new growth, to blue-green adult leaves, that shift to vibrant red in fall
- Great for borders, edging, landscapes, mass plantings, low hedges, focal points
- Resists deer, foliage interest, low maintenance
Our deciduous shrubs are entering their natural dormancy phase. As part of this process, foliage is turning colors, drying out, and falling off—this is completely normal! Shedding leaves helps the plants conserve energy and prepare for the next growing season. Rest assured, your shrubs will wake up and thrive again when it's time in your growing zone. Dormancy is how they prepare for a healthy, vibrant comeback as the seasons change!
Care: Fertilize with Proven Winners Continuous Release Plant Food in spring and mid-summer. If you wish, you can give it a trim after the flowers fade, which will encourage even more colorful new growth.
Fun fact: Though you wouldn't guess it by looking at it, spiraea is closely related to roses and raspberries.
