With its rich, silvery-green foliage, Crested Surf resembles the classic Japanese Painted Fern, but with a delightful twist—each frond features double-crested tips, creating a unique, textured look that catches the light in captivating ways. A vigorous and taller variety, Crested Surf is perfect for filling the middle of your border, providing lush, dramatic interest. Thriving in moist, shady areas, this fern is an ideal addition to bring both elegance and depth to your garden all season long.

  • 20-22 inches tall and 28-30 inches wide at maturity
  • Hardy in zones 3-8, be sure to check your USDA zone to ensure success
  • Plant in part to full shade (4 or less hours daily)
  • Space plants 28-30 inches apart for best results
  • Maintains silvery green foliage spring to frost
  • Great for borders, containers, as a focal point and landscapes
  • Resists rabbits

Care: Fertilize with Proven Winners Continuous Release Plant Food in spring. To protect the crowns and tender shoots in the spring, it is best to leave the old fronds on the plant over the winter. They can be removed in the spring when the new fronds reach 6 inches tall.
