Blue Chiffon produces large blue-lavender flowers each adorned with a lacy center to create an anemone-like bloom that stands out in late summer to early fall. Refined, rounded habit with soft, elegant stems, that produces few to no seeds. It is heat, drought, and salt tolerant, deer resistant, and attracts pollinators to boot! Whether you plant one striking specimen or mix and match for a colorful collection, you will see that Chiffon series Roses of Sharon are anything but conventional.

  • 8-12 feet tall and 6-10 feet wide at maturity
  • Hardy in zones 5-9, be sure to check your USDA zone to ensure success
  • Plant in full sun (6+ hours daily)
  • Space plants 6-10 feet apart for best results
  • Produces blue-lavender flowers throughout summer
  • Maintains dark foliage spring to frost
  • Blooms on new wood
  • Great for borders, containers, screening, landscape, mass planting or as a focal point
  • Attracts bees, butterflies and hummingbirds while resisting deer
  • Heat, drought and salt tolerant, long blooming, low maintenance

Care: Fertilize with Proven Winners Continuous Release Plant Food in spring and mid-summer. Requires well-draining soil. Regular pruning is not necessary. If any shaping is desired, do so in early spring. Note that Rose of Sharon is quite late to leaf out in spring, so be patient with it.

Just arrived looking travel weary. Put out for morning sun under the shade of the south fence to recover. You mention can tolerate heavy pruning. Do you mean I can cut down to bare to shape just like I do with my other roses?
PWD reply
Thank you for sharing! Rose of Sharon needs little to no regular pruning. If you wish to prune, however, late winter or early spring is the best time to do so. Up to one-third of the plant can be removed at a time. I am including a link to our Rose of Sharon Care Guide below:

This little one is growing like a champ, it is lined up with 3 other colors for a bit of privacy.

She arrived looking a bit spindly but had plenty of blooms. I planted her in a large container to see how she fills out. Temps are very warm here right now so she appreciates a good drink and then bounces right back. I have her on my deck right now but hoping to transplant her in the ground next spring. I love the Proven Winners plants!
