Because it produces very few cones, it channels more energy into growth, outpacing many other options. Its naturally uniform shape needs little to no pruning, and as a North American native species, it brings impressive cold hardiness to the landscape.

  • 20-30 feet tall and 6-10 feet wide at maturity
  • Hardy in zones 2-9, be sure to check your USDA zone to ensure success
  • Plant in full to part sun (4+ hours daily)
  • Space plants 6-10 feet apart for best results

Care: Fertilize with Proven Winners Continuous Release Plant Food in spring and mid-summer. Does not strictly require pruning, though it does tolerate it well. Prune in late spring after new growth has emerged.
