Winecraft Black® Smokebush is a striking and versatile landscape plant. In spring, its round leaves emerge in a rich purple hue, transitioning to a deep, near-black tone as the summer heat sets in. Come fall, the foliage explodes in a brilliant display of reds and oranges. In early summer, large, soft panicles of bloom appear, evolving into the signature "smoke" effect that makes this plant so beloved. With is naturally rounded, dwarf habit, it is an ideal choice for gardens of all sizes. Perfect for adding dramatic color and texture, this unique plant fits seamlessly into any landscape. 

  • 8-10 feet tall and 6-8 feet wide at maturity
  • Hardy in zones 4-8, be sure to check your USDA zone to ensure success
  • Plant in full sun (6+ hours daily)
  • Space plants 6-8 feet apart for best results
  • Produces soft panicles of smoky pink and red blooms in early summer
  • Maintains colorful foliage that starts purple in spring before maturing to red-orange in the fall

Care: Fertilize with Proven Winners Continuous Release Plant Food in spring and mid-summer. It's best to avoid pruning smokebush regularly, though you may selectively remove branches to attain the shape you desire.
