Don’t let the compact size fool you—Show Off Starlet® Forsythia delivers a spring spectacle just as dazzling as the original. Reaching just 3 feet tall, this dwarf variety is perfect for smaller landscapes, borders, or front-of-the-bed placement where space is limited but bold color is still on the wishlist.

Its densely packed branches erupt in a golden bloom early each spring, creating the same highlighter-yellow glow that makes the Show Off® series famous. It’s wonderfully low-maintenance: simply water through the first season, and in most regions, rainfall alone keeps it thriving for years to come. Even occasional drought or black walnut roots pose little threat.

For gardeners who love an effortless burst of cheer each spring, Show Off Starlet® delivers high impact with minimal effort—just a light rejuvenation prune every few years, if needed, to keep it performing at its peak.

  • 2-3 feet tall wide at maturity
  • Hardy in zones 5-8, be sure to check your USDA zone to ensure success
  • Plant in full to part sun (4+ hours daily)
  • Space plants 2-3 feet apart for best results
  • Produces abundant bright yellow flowers starting early in spring
  • Maintains green foliage spring to fall
  • Blooms on old wood
  • Great for landscapes, mixed borders, containers, cut flowers or as a focal point
  • Resists deer
  • Drought tolerant, low maintenance, deadheading not necessary

Care:  Fertilize with Proven Winners Continuous Release Plant Food in spring. Grows well in any soil. Pruning has to be perfectly timed not to interfere with flowering. If you’d like to shape it, you can do so just after it finishes flowering in the springtime. Rejuvenation pruning is recommended. Cut 1/3 of the old, thick branches down completely every three to five years. This will encourage the plant to create juvenile growth, which flowers most abundantly.
