Purple Pillar® Rose of Sharon is a durable and easy-to-grow variety perfect for narrow spaces. Its columnar form makes it an excellent choice for creating hedges or screens, providing vibrant summer color in tight spots. The plant produces large, semi-doubled flowers in a striking purple shade, with magenta-red centers that bloom continuously throughout the summer. With its limitless landscape potential, Purple Pillar® is ideal for narrow hedges, privacy screens, formal gardens, entryways, and decorative containers, offering a bold and elegant display wherever it’s planted.

  • 10-16 feet tall and 4-5 feet wide at maturity
  • Hardy in zones 5-9, be sure to check your USDA zone to ensure success
  • Plant in full sun (6+ hours daily)
  • Space plants 4-5 feet apart for best results
  • Produces purple semi-double flowers with magenta-red centers throughout summer
  • Maintains green foliage spring to frost
  • Blooms on new wood
  • Great for borders, containers, screening, landscape, mass planting or as a focal point
  • Attracts bees, butterflies and hummingbirds while resisting deer
  • Heat, drought and salt tolerant, long blooming, low maintenance

Care: Fertilize with Proven Winners Continuous Release Plant Food in spring and mid-summer. Requires well-draining soil. Regular pruning is not necessary. If any shaping is desired, do so in early spring. Note that Rose of Sharon is quite late to leaf out in spring, so be patient with it.

I bought three of these. I thought they would be shipped dormant but when they arrived they had new leaves already growing. They were in great condition.

Way to small and underdeveloped for the price. My mistake and won’t shop again.

One is gorgeous, the other one, same color and type I purchased does not have the same color to the leaves but is growing nicely just the same. I am guessing sun versus shade os the situation

We went through the sleep and creep years a d our third leap year is so disappointing. All last years branches are dead and new growth is energy from the base. It is only about 19 inches tall. Our other Rose of Sharon has new growth about 2/3 of the way up last years branches. I know they are different cultivars bit the all dead pillar just does t seem correct.
