Pugster Pinker® Butterfly Bush is a stunning, compact shrub that delivers full-sized, rich pink flowers on a dwarf frame. Despite its small size, this plant produces the large, vibrant blooms typically seen on much taller varieties, creating a striking display in the garden. From early summer through frost, it blooms non-stop, with each flower featuring a bright orange eye in the center that adds a pop of contrast to its pink petals. The Pugster® series is known for its thick, sturdy stems, which provide superior hardiness and winter survival compared to other dwarf butterfly bushes. With its fragrant, eye-catching flowers, Pugster Pinker® is a perfect choice for adding lasting color and charm to any landscape.

  • 24 inches tall and 24-30 inches wide at maturity
  • Hardy in zones 5-9, be sure to check your USDA zone to ensure success
  • Plant in full sun (8+ hours daily)
  • Space plants 24-30 inches apart for best results
  • Produces fragrant pink flowers summer through fall
  • Maintains green foliage in a mounded habit from spring to frost
  • Blooms on new wood
  • Great for borders, containers, edging, groundcover landscapes, mass planting
  • Attracts bees and butterflies while resisting deer and rabbits
  • Heat and drought tolerant, reblooming, deadheading not necessary

Care:  Fertilize with Proven Winners Continuous Release Plant Food in spring.

Pruning: Prune in spring, after the new growth emerges. Remove weak branches in the middle and about 1/2 to 2/3 of the height and width. Make cuts just about 1/4 of an inch above a bud. Dead or damaged wood can be removed at any time, just cut back to a set of leaves.

Soil: Butterfly bushes need perfect drainage. Their roots are sensitive to rotting, and if they spend any amount of time in wet soil, they can be set back or even die. They can grow in clay soil, but need to be planted a few inches above soil level. This creates a small “hill” that encourages water to drain away from the plant rather than settle around it.

Planting: Never amend the soil when planting a butterfly bush. Amending the soil, particularly clay soil, can cause drainage problems. Avoid mulching directly around your butterfly bush. Mulch is a great idea for other plants, but in clay soil, it can hold too much moisture. Go ahead and mulch your beds, but give your butterfly bush a bit of clearance, and never mulch all the way up to the main stems.

Dormancy: Butterfly bushes tend to be one of the later plants to leaf out in spring. Even if everything else in your landscape is turning green, that doesn’t mean you’ve lost your butterfly bush. If you're worried, try the scratch test. Lightly scratch at a few branches with your fingernail. If there is green underneath, the plant is still alive.

The bushes were poorly packed and handled. Sadly, 1/3 of the bushes were broken off or snapped so now we get the job of trying to nurse them back to a decent condition and hope they will fill back in. The Amethyst that was also shipped with the Pinkers look just as bad. A second major disappointment from Proven Winners online. We'll buy from local nurseries next year.

Sadly the first order of Pugster Pinker arrived dry and dead due to the heatwave. Proven Winners customer service is top level! I attached a picture of the sad order to an email and they shopped a new order asap. This order arrived happy and strong. I’m thrilled to get to

While the Rhododendrons arrived in good condition, the Pugsters were DOA. The soil was bone dry, as were the plants themselves. My order consisted of the two Rhododendrons and the two Pugsters, and both Pugsters were dead.

I am very pleased with my order. The butterfly bush (and petunias) arrived in perfect condition. They all did well, and I planted them when it was 80 degrees here. Unfortunately, the weather turned cold again (lows in the 30's at night) and lots of rain. So far, all the plants are doing well considering the shock they went through. I am sure they will all start blooming once our weather gets warm again. The whole ordering experience was great, the plants arrived in perfect condition, and I am looking forward to doing it again soon. I was skeptical about ordering online, but this has made me a believer!

Linda,

i emailed your company when I received the 2 bushes and sent pictures. I had one plant which didn't look to be the quality I was expecting. Your company told me to wait a few weeks since butterfly bushes leaf out late. It still looks sad looking.

Thank you for sharing. We're sorry to hear this and happy to help! Please, respond to this email with a photo of their current condition.
