Care:  Fertilize with Proven Winners Continuous Release Plant Food in spring and mid-summer. Best in full sun or light shade, keep base and roots completely shaded. "Feet in the shade, head in the sun" is a saying you may have heard for successfully growing clematis, so plant it where the vine gets sunshine, but the roots stay cool. You can accomplish this with mulch, or by shading the root zone with a nearby shrub or perennial. Prune hard to 18 inches in late winter. Leave at least two pairs of buds on each stem.
