Legend of the Fall® Bottlebrush has honey-scented white flowers in Spring and gorgeous red-orange fall foliage. It is one of the most shade tolerant landscape shrubs, thrives even in hot climates, and resists deer. This lovely native shrub lends an informal, natural charm anywhere it is planted.

  • 4-5 feet tall and wide at maturity
  • Hardy in zones 5-9, be sure to check your USDA zone to ensure success
  • Plant in part to full sun (4+ hours daily)
  • Space plants 4-5 feet apart for best results
  • Produces white, honey scented flowers in spring
  • Maintains green foliage starting in spring, before transitioning to it's gorgeous autumn beauty
  • Blooms on old wood
  • Great for borders, edges, landscapes, mass planting or as a focal point
  • Attracts bees and butterflies while resisting deer
  • Native to North America, heat tolerant, fall interest, low maintenance

Care:  Fertilize with Proven Winners Continuous Release Plant Food in spring. Little pruning is needed. If you do wish to prune, do so after flowering in spring. The hotter your climate, the more shade becomes imperative, especially during the hottest part of the day.

Legend Of The Fall® Bottlebrush (Fothergilla x intermedia)

The plant arrived quickly and appearing in good shape with many small leaves and very soggy soil. Because our weather had below freezing temperatures and snow I did not think it should be planted outside. I put it in a cool place with good light. All the leaves died. It has not revived but may?

Thank you for sharing! Yes, it is still coming out of its dormancy phase, and I see your last frost is not until May 4th. You will want to plant after May 4th.

Legend Of The Fall® Bottlebrush (Fothergilla x intermedia)

They arrived looking a little worse for wear (some dried out leaves, etc.). I had great concern about how they would turn out but after speaking with Katelynn and following her instructions for care, the plants are thriving and new leaves are popping out all over. I won't hesitate to order from Proven Winners again.

Thank you for sharing!! Yes, Katelynn is wonderful!😊
