Happy Jack Purple displays velvety plum-purple flowers with intriguing center highlights and bright yellow stamens. This early and long-flowering beauty blooms from mid-summer into fall with large 3-5" blooms. Clematis requires a trellis or support to climb up.

  • 6-8 feet tall and 3-4 feet wide at maturity
  • Hardy in zones 5-9, be sure to check your USDA zone to ensure success
  • Plant in part to full sun (4+ hours daily)
  • Space plants 4-6 feet apart for best results
  • Produces plum-purple flowers throughout summer
  • Maintains green foliage spring through frost
  • Blooms on old and new wood
  • Great for borders, containers, landscapes or as a focal point
  • Low-maintenance, long blooming

Care: Best in full sun or light shade, keep base and roots completely shaded. "Feet in the shade, head in the sun" is a saying you may have heard for successfully growing clematis, so plant it where the vine gets sunshine, but the roots stay cool. You can accomplish this with mulch, or by shading the root zone with a nearby shrub or perennial. Prune back to 2 feet in spring. Fertilize with Proven Winners Continuous Release Plant Food in spring and mid-summer.
