As part of the beloved Double Play® series, Double Play Big Bang® spirea brings a burst of color and an easygoing habit that every landscape deserves. From the first days of spring to the crisp close of fall, it puts on a show. Fresh orange foliage emerges in spring, shifting to bright golden yellow through summer, where it’s topped with exceptionally large pink blooms—bigger than any you’ve seen on spirea before. Trim lightly after flowering to encourage another flush of brilliant new growth. Naturally deer-resistant and drought-tolerant, this resilient shrub thrives in borders, foundations, or mass plantings where its vibrant presence can truly shine.

  • 2-3 feet tall and wide at maturity
  • Hardy in zones 4-8, be sure to check your USDA zone to ensure success
  • Plant in part to full sun (4+ hours daily)
  • Space plants 2-3 feet apart for best results
  • Produces pink flowers from late spring to early summer
  • Maintains colorful foliage that develops from orange new growth in the spring to yellow throughout summer and fall
  • Blooms on new wood
  • Great for borders, edges, foundation plantings, mass plantings, low hedges
  • Attracts bees and butterflies while resisting deer
  • Fall interest, drought tolerant, foliage interest, disease resistant

Care: Fertilize with Proven Winners Continuous Release Plant Food in spring and mid summer. Pruning isn’t necessary for the plant’s health, but for appearances’ sake you can shape it in early spring. If desired, you can also give it a light trim after its first flush of flowers to promote colorful new growth.

Fun fact: Though you wouldn't guess it by looking at it, spirea is closely related to roses and raspberries.
