Bought two, arrived dry dead sticks and roots…not dormant plants. PW advised to wait and see what they look like in spring. I hope they do not disappear before then. I do know the difference between dormant snd dead.

Hi Garden Friend,
Thank you for sharing your review of your Arctic Fire® Red Dogwoods. We are sorry to hear that you are unhappy with your plants. Based on the pictures that you sent, your plants look normal for being dormant.
However, if you'd like to be certain, you can perform a scratch test. The best way to determine if a shrub is still alive is by performing a scratch test. Simply scratch at a few spots of the main stem with your fingernail. If there is green underneath, then it is still alive. If it is brown or hollow, then it is dead.
Let us know if you have any further questions.
Sincerely,
PWD Team

Came in very nice. Had some crunchies, but no biggie, just trimmed them off. Can't plant until Spring since I ordered so late.

Thank you for sharing! As long as your ground is not frozen, we recommend planting now and not waiting until Spring. Our plants are happiest in the ground! :)

Plant was very dry when I received it. Planted same day. It's slowly recovering.

Despite my better judgment of ordering online, I read good reviews about Proven Winners Direct and have purchased Proven Winners from nurseries for YEARS. I was initially excited about my purchase as Arctic Fire Dogwood and Anna's Magic Ball Thuja were both on my wishlist. Unfortunately, upon arrival, I was taken aback by the size and condition of the plants, confirming my gut reaction not to order online.
Specifically, the Arctic Fire Dogwood appeared to have been severely topped to fit the shipping box, resulting in a very unsightly appearance. The overall size of the plants seems grossly inadequate for the price. I know what size a quart pot is, but I thought the plant should at least FILL the quart and not be slaughtered to fit the shipping box.
A photo is attached comparing these plants to similar ones I purchased from a local nursery from Proven Winners, at $40 for a full-grown plant a day after I ordered online! It is difficult to justify paying nearly $60 for some topped stems of dogwood.
I believe no reasonable person would expect or accept plants in this condition, and thus far in the guarantee/return process have been told that "our shrubs are pruned at the discretion of the team of growers at the appropriate time for the variety". These are not pruned, they are hacked.
