Black Lace Elderberry has intense purple-black foliage that is finely cut like lace. Its soft pink flowers bloom in early summer then make way for elderberries, which can be harvested for making wine and jam. It attracts birds and resists deer. To produce berries, you'll need a Black Beauty, Instant Karma, or Laced Up elderberry as a pollinator.

  • 6-8 feet tall and wide at maturity
  • Grow in zones 5-7
  • Plant in part to full sun (4+ hours daily)

Our deciduous shrubs are entering their natural dormancy phase. As part of this process, foliage is turning colors, drying out, and falling off—this is completely normal! Shedding leaves helps the plants conserve energy and prepare for the next growing season. Rest assured, your shrubs will wake up and thrive again when it's time in your growing zone. Dormancy is how they prepare for a healthy, vibrant comeback as the seasons change!

Care: Best if pruned immediately after blooming. Can be pruned to the ground each year and grown like a perennial. Fertilize with Proven Winners Continuous Release Plant Food in spring.

*According to the Humane Society of America, elderberry can be toxic to pets if consumed.
