Please note: Our Ships Now shrubs are still waking up from dormancy! In the spring, shrubs begin to emerge from dormancy with swelling buds and potentially new growth as temperatures rise and daylight hours increase. Most dormant shrubs start leafing out in April, depending on the specific plant and local weather conditions.

A ray of winter sunshine for your landscape! Arctic Fire® Yellow dogwood offers the same legendary durability as red-twig dogwood, but brings a cheerful yellow option. Stunning on its own, or planted with Arctic Fire Red Dogwood, it also brings a nice option for cutting for winter and holiday arrangements.

  • 4-5 feet tall and 5-6 feet wide at maturity
  • Hardy in zones 2-7, be sure to check your USDA zone to ensure success
  • Plant in part to full sun (4+ hours daily)
  • Space plants 5-6 feet apart for best results
  • Produces white flowers in late spring followed by decorative white berries
  • Maintains green foliage spring to fall that sheds to reveal bright yellow stems through winter
  • Blooms on old wood
  • Great for borders, cut foliage, screening, landscapes, mass plantings, containers, winter gardens
  • Attracts bees and butterflies while resisting deer
  • Native to North America, salt tolerant, fall and winter interest

Our deciduous shrubs are entering their natural dormancy phase. As part of this process, foliage is turning colors, drying out, and falling off—this is completely normal! Shedding leaves helps the plants conserve energy and prepare for the next growing season. Rest assured, your shrubs will wake up and thrive again when it's time in your growing zone. Dormancy is how they prepare for a healthy, vibrant comeback as the seasons change!

Care: Fertilize with Proven Winners Continuous Release Plant Food every spring. Best growth occurs in moist soils but will tolerate dry periods after it is established. The best yellow color appears on one and two-year old stems; older stems will turn corky and brown. To maintain a colorful display, you can do one of two things: one, cut the whole plant back to short stubs every other year. Two, cut out one-third of the oldest stems every year. Early spring is the best time to prune.

Very nice plants, but would like to know if the berries are edible, poisonous or somewhere in between. Can someone please help me?
PWD reply
Hi Evelyn,

Arctic Fire® Yellow Red-Osier Dogwood berries should not be eaten, regardless of potential toxicity. Also, to get the best color on the stems, which is the primary reason people grow these shrubs, they do need to be pruned yearly or possibly every other year in early spring, which will prune off flowers and prevent fruit formation. Hope this helps! Please feel free to reach out if you have any further questions! :)

Best,
PWD Team
