Its striking, fastigiate habit rises gracefully, accentuating the delicate, lacy foliage that makes elderberries so beloved—only here, the foliage is a dramatic near-black, creating an effect reminiscent of a flock of birds in flight. In early summer, soft pink flowers appear, eventually giving way to lustrous black fruit when a pollinator such as Black Lace® elderberry is nearby. Tall, narrow, and upright, this exceptional plant makes a perfect screen or vertical accent, bringing both function and flair to the garden. Care: Fertilize with Proven Winners Continuous Release Plant Food in spring and mid summer. Prune after bloom if desired, but this will remove the potential for fruit to set. To produce berries, plant near a Black Lace® elderberry as a pollinator.
