Amazel Basil® is the first Italian sweet basil that is resistant to downy mildew, a disease that often plagues basil. And since it’s sterile, this large, vigorous plant produces a higher yield of usable, deliciously aromatic leaves.

  • 20-36 inches tall and 12-24 inches wide at maturity
  • Annual except in zones 10-11
  • Plant in full sun (6+ hours daily)
  • Space plants 12-18 inches apart for best results
  • Produces edible foliage from spring through fall
  • Great for containers, raised beds, herb gardens
  • Heat tolerant, edible

Care: Fertilize weekly with Proven Winners® Water Soluble Plant Food for best performance. Best grown in the landscape, although a large container can work as well.

Harvest: The more you harvest, the better it grows. Harvest sprays of leaves by cutting stems just above two new sprouting lateral branches to get lush regrowth.

Best. Basil. Ever.

Best. Basil. Ever.
I order the Proven Winners Amazel Basil every year, and it never disappoints! Last summer mine grew over 3.5 feet tall and nearly 3 feet wide even while growing in a pot. It was incredibly vigorous, healthy, and productive all season long. This year I planted it in the ground to see how much bigger it will get.

Wow!!

So far it is great

So far it is great. It has bloomed in our heat (California 9b/10a) and it still tastes great. I’m looking forward to see how it does in Aug & Sept.

Losing Resistance to Downy Mildew

I have grown this Basil for years, being one of the few that offered good resistance to the dreaded Downy Mildew. However for the first time this year, my 3 plants have already succumbed. Which means the pathogen is able to overcome the plants resistance. Back to the drawing board!

Thank you for sharing your experience. We’re sorry to hear about the mildew issue. Please send photos to HelpDesk@ProvenWinnersDirect.com and we would be happy to help!😊🌺

The plant was not in good shape on arrival

The plant was not in good shape on arrival. It slowly started dying no matter what I tried. So, it never got planted.

Thank you for bringing this to our attention. We are sorry to hear that your Amazel Basil did not arrive in good shape. Can you please send photos of the plant to HelpDesk@ProvenWinnersDirect.com? We are happy to help!

Healthy and strong

Love the basil plants…they arrived healthy and strong, despite the Horrible shipping. They were completely knocked out of their little pots. But they were healthy and I carefully repotted them with the loose soil on the bottom of the box.

Arrived as scheduled

Arrived as scheduled. Packaged expertly. Get every year on pre-order.
Basil is the best!! Nothing beats Proven Winners. Other vanities of basil always wither and die. Look forward to basil each year. Use as salad with other greens/herbs or by itself, in place of lettuce on sandwiches, garnish, in recipes, etc. Don't miss this! Delicious!! A real favorite.

Thank you for sharing Garden Friend!

They were a little beat up in transit. One of the plants was rediculously small. It looked like it was just emerging.
I have ordered plants online before and they have been better wrapped and secured. I won’t be ordering vegetable plants from them in the future. It’s not worth the money.
