Berry Heavy Winterberry (Ilex)

Our shrubs are currently going dormant. The foliage is turning colors, drying out, and falling off. During dormancy, plants go inactive to conserve their energy for the next growing season. This happens naturally as seasons change!

Transform your landscape into a winter wonderland with Berry Heavy Winterberry. This native deciduous holly produces vibrant red berries in the fall and winter, adding a pop of color to your surroundings. Cut the berries for a stunning addition to floral arrangements. While not edible for us, birds will delight in this luscious treat. Just make sure to pair it with Mr. Poppins for pollination.

  • 6-8 feet tall and wide at maturity
  • Grow in zones 3-9
  • Plant in part to full sun (4+ hours daily)

Care: It's best to avoid pruning altogether, as pruning after bloom will remove the potential for the fruit to develop. Fertilize with Proven Winners Continuous Release Plant Food in spring.

Pollination: One male plant will pollinate up to 5 females; plants should be located within about 50'/15.24m of each other.
