Compact, bold, and bursting with color, Summerific® 'Garnet Globes' is a standout hibiscus that forms a tidy 3' tall and wide sphere—perfect for adding structure and drama to your garden. Starting in midsummer, it puts on a spectacular show with massive 7" dark garnet red blooms, each with a deep, dark eye. The flowers cover the entire plant, stem to tip, making it look like it's wearing a gown of blossoms.

Though it’s a bit slow to wake up in spring, this North American native quickly kicks into high gear—growing up to an inch a day! Hardy down to Zone 4, it’s an easy, fast-growing way to bring tropical flair and late-season color to even cooler climates. Great for borders, focal points, or anywhere you need a burst of bold beauty.

  • 36-42 inches tall and 36 inches wide at maturity
  • Hardy in zones 4-9, be sure to check your USDA zone to ensure success
  • Plant in full sun to part sun (4+ hours daily)
  • Space plants 36 inches apart for best results
  • Produces large "dinner-plate" flowers in dark-garnet red shades with a dark center starting in midsummer and lasting into fall
  • Maintains green foliage in a dense, shrub-like habit from late spring to frost
  • Great for borders, landscapes, focal points, bogs
  • Attracts bees and hummingbirds while resisting deer
  • Native to North America, bog plant, fall interest, long blooming

Care: Hibiscus love the sun and need moist, well-drained soil. Keeping these plants watered will result in larger flowers and lush foliage. Deadheading will improve the appearance of the plant, but is not necessary for continued bloom. It is best to plant Hibiscus in the garden before the heat of the summer arrives, and should be heavily mulched the first winter. In spring, cut back any remaining stems before new growth appears. Do not trim back in fall. A strong pair of loppers or a saw will be necessary to cut this plant back. Be advised that Hibiscus is always one of the last perennials to emerge in spring. Be patient, even if you think it is dead, it most likely isn't. Its vigorous growth rate more than makes up for this late start, however. Japanese beetles find these plants especially delicious. Fertilize with Proven Winners® Continuous Release Plant Food in spring and midsummer.
