Wee Bit Grumpy® is a hydrangea that commands attention with its intense, saturated flower color and exceptional landscape performance. In acidic soils, expect dramatic deep purple-blue blooms that exude mood and mystery, while neutral or basic soils bring out vivid red hues that pop with vibrancy. Surrounded by a compact mound of neat, disease-resistant foliage, this variety also stands up better to cold weather than conventional hydrangeas. With re-blooming flowers all summer long and dark green, glossy leaves, Wee Bit Grumpy® is a stunning, reliable addition to any garden.

  • 2 feet tall and 2.5 feet wide at maturity
  • Hardy in zones 5-9, be sure to check your USDA zone to ensure success
  • Plant in part to full sun in northern climates and part sun (4+ hours daily) in southern climates
  • Space plants 2.5 feet apart for best results
  • Maintains green foliage spring to frost
  • Produces mophead style bright red flowers in neutral to alkaline soils; purple flowers in acidic conditions, reblooming throughout summer
  • Blooms on old wood
  • Great for borders, cut flowers, dried flowers, landscapes, specimen or focal points
  • Long blooming, reblooming, salt tolerant

Care:  Fertilize with Proven Winners Continuous Release Plant Food in spring and mid-summer. Avoid pruning bigleaf hydrangeas, except to remove any dead wood. These hydrangeas cannot be cut back or trimmed at any time of the year without impacting the bloom for either the current season or the next. Soil pH affects flower color, so expect appealing pink in neutral to slightly alkaline soil and a beautiful soft blue in acidic soils that contain aluminum.
