Beyond Midnight has extremely dark, glossy foliage, a compact habit, and deep blue late summer flowers. It adds much-needed color to the late summer landscape and makes a handsome companion with perennials. It is deer-resistant and attracts bees, butterflies, and hummingbirds.

  • 24-30 inches tall and wide at maturity
  • Grow in zones 5-9
  • Plant in full sun (6+ hours daily)

Care: It requires well-drained soil to prevent root rot. Fertilize with Proven Winners Continuous Release Plant Food in spring and mid-summer.

Pruning: Caryopteris should be cut back every spring to ensure sturdy, dense growth. You may give it a light trim in late autumn, once it has gone dormant, to remove the old flowers and eliminate possible seed spread. However, do not cut into any thick, woody stems until new growth begins to emerge in spring.

    Grand Central Station for pollinators!

This is a fabulous plant. I bought 5 quart size in the fall. They were healthy and had good roots. I transplanted them early this spring into full sun and they have grown like mad. They are now about 3 feet tall. Prior to blooming in mid-summer, the dark green foliage was very attractive. Then the buds appeared like little diamonds all over the plant. When opened, the beautiful blue flowers were fantastic and every bee and wasp and butterfly in the county paid a daily visit. I absolutely love this plant. Nothing eats them, I only fed them once, they maintained glossy dark green leaves all summer, even in scorching heat. I’ll be planting more this fall.

    Anxious for the blue!

It's a bit small right now, but looks very healthy. When it gets a bit larger I look forward to seeing the blue flowers.
