Our shrubs are currently going dormant. The foliage is turning colors, drying out, and falling off. During dormancy, plants go inactive to conserve their energy for the next growing season. This happens naturally as seasons change!

Double Play Candy Corn's new growth emerges bright candy apple red, as it matures, it turns pineapple yellow, and the new growth continues to emerge bright orange all season with purple flowers in spring. Deadheading is not necessary on this deer-resistant shrub.

  • 18-24 inches tall and 18-30 inches wide at maturity
  • Grow in zones 4-8
  • Plant in part to full sun (4+ hours daily)

Our deciduous shrubs are entering their natural dormancy phase. As part of this process, foliage is turning colors, drying out, and falling off—this is completely normal! Shedding leaves helps the plants conserve energy and prepare for the next growing season. Rest assured, your shrubs will wake up and thrive again when it's time in your growing zone. Dormancy is how they prepare for a healthy, vibrant comeback as the seasons change!

Care: It naturally takes on a nice, rounded habit without pruning. If you wish, you can give it a trim after the flowers fade, which will encourage even more colorful new growth. Fertilize with Proven Winners Continuous Release Plant Food in spring and mid-summer.

Fun fact: Though you wouldn't guess it by looking at it, spiraea is closely related to roses and raspberries.
