When compared to average berries from the store, Taste of Heaven™ Blackberry brings this long-time favorite fruit to new heights. The berries of this thornless shrub are consistently sweet with just enough tang, and a rich full flavor that is a joy to eat! These blackberries are wonderful plain and fresh from the garden, as well as an excellent addition to pies, jams, and beverages– anywhere you want a delectable berry taste!
Thanks to its sturdy canes and smaller size, Taste of Heaven can be grown without a trellis, and in more places than other varieties. This floricane blackberry (fruits on the second year canes) performs best and produces the highest yield in full sun, but will still produce fruit even in the shade– something uncommon for fruit plants! With a long fruiting season, early ripening, and a unique habit; this shrub is an excellent choice for your containers, edging, pollinator gardens, edible gardens, and more.
- 3-5 feet tall and 2-3 feet wide at maturity
- Grow in zones 6-8
- Plant in full sun (6+ hours daily)
Our deciduous shrubs are entering their natural dormancy phase. As part of this process, foliage is turning colors, drying out, and falling off—this is completely normal! Shedding leaves helps the plants conserve energy and prepare for the next growing season. Rest assured, your shrubs will wake up and thrive again when it's time in your growing zone. Dormancy is how they prepare for a healthy, vibrant comeback as the seasons change!
Care: Taste of Heaven will produce the best tasting and highest yield in full sun, but will still produce berries in the shade if space is unavailable. Grows well in most soil types except compacted clay or chalky soil, where amending the soil is strongly recommended. The best fruit will be produced in well-drained but moist and nutrient-dense soil. These plants like a good supply of moisture, especially when producing fruit, but not so much water that the soil stays constantly soggy or wet. Mulching in spring can help with retaining moisture throughout summer. After canes have fruited they will slowly die, so by winter they should look different from the new canes and can be pruned.
