    Hoping Fluffy is a Toughie

The two plants were well packaged and arrived in excellent condition. Fluffy is a beautiful bright golden green with wonderfully soft, fragrant foliage. Since they're slated for a large area that will be completely re-done next spring, they were planted in an empty raised bed in the vegetable garden as a temporary nursery bed, joining the 5 North Pole arbs that arrived and were planted the day before Thanksgiving. In my zone 5 (winter temps down to minus 20 with consistently punishing prairie winds) I've never even considered planting in November and December, but so far, so good. They're well mulched with a layer of shredded leaves, topped with a layer of compost, then another layer of shredded leaves and were watered deeply until the ground froze. They all look as beautiful as the day they arrived. Because of our winds I usually strive for plants rated for zone 4 or colder, so we'll know by spring if Fluffy is truly a toughie.

Mary, Thank you for sharing! We're happy to hear you are enjoying your shrubs :) The additional mulch is a great idea to help insulate due to cold winds. These may also be covered with burlap during this time if there are no manmade or natural barriers to the winds.
