Little Quick Fire® Panicle Hydrangea (Hydrangea paniculata)

Our shrubs are currently going dormant. The foliage is turning colors, drying out, and falling off. During dormancy, plants go inactive to conserve their energy for the next growing season. This happens naturally as seasons change!

Little Quick Fire® is a dwarf form of Quick Fire® hydrangea. It is just as early-blooming, but about one third of the size. Its blooms begin white and change to burgundy pink over a short time, giving the late summer garden a true jewel to marvel at. Flowering about a month earlier than other panicles and with the best fall foliage color of any panicle hydrangea, it lengthens the hydrangea season for any garden! This makes it an easy choice for foundation plantings, where its full habit softens the straight lines of a home, and its blooms provide long-lasting dazzling beauty.

  • 3-5 feet tall and wide at maturity
  • Hardy in zones 3-8, be sure to check your USDA zone to ensure success
  • Plant in part sun (4+ hours daily) in southern climates and part to full sun in northern climates
  • Space plants 3-5 feet apart for best results
  • Produces white flowers that age to burgundy-pink throughout summer
  • Maintains green foliage spring to frost
  • Blooms on new wood
  • Great for borders, containers, landscapes, hedges, cut and dried flowers
  • Salt tolerant, fall interest

Our deciduous shrubs are entering their natural dormancy phase. As part of this process, foliage is turning colors, drying out, and falling off—this is completely normal! Shedding leaves helps the plants conserve energy and prepare for the next growing season. Rest assured, your shrubs will wake up and thrive again when it's time in your growing zone. Dormancy is how they prepare for a healthy, vibrant comeback as the seasons change!

Care: Fertilize with Proven Winners Continuous Release Plant Food in spring and mid-summer. Prefers well-drained soil that does not remain soggy for any amount of time. To prune, simply cut back by one-third of its total height every spring, just as new growth begins to emerge on stems. Make cuts just about 1/4 of an inch above a bud. Dead or damaged wood can be removed at any time.
