Incrediball® Smooth Hydrangea (Hydrangea arborescens)

Our shrubs are currently going dormant. The foliage is turning colors, drying out, and falling off. During dormancy, plants go inactive to conserve their energy for the next growing season. This happens naturally as seasons change!

Incrediball® Smooth Hydrangea is a stunning native shrub that captivates with its impressive, basketball-sized blooms. Starting as delicate green buds, the blossoms quickly transform into pure white, then gradually mature into a rich, jade green hue. Its strong, sturdy stems provide reliable support, ensuring the blooms remain upright without flopping, making it an easy-to-grow addition to any garden. Ideal for creating a striking hedge or as a focal point, this hydrangea also excels as a cut or dried flower, bringing beauty and elegance to both your garden and floral arrangements.

  • 4-5 feet tall and wide at maturity
  • Hardy in zones 3-8, be sure to check your USDA zone to ensure success
  • Plant in part to full sun in northern climates and part sun (4+ hours daily) in southern climates.
  • Space plants 5-6 feet apart for best results
  • Produces white flowers throughout summer that age to jade green in fall
  • Maintains green foliage spring to frost
  • Blooms on new wood
  • Great for borders, hedges, landscapes, cut and dried flowers
  • Native to North America, salt tolerant, fall interest

Our deciduous shrubs are entering their natural dormancy phase. As part of this process, foliage is turning colors, drying out, and falling off—this is completely normal! Shedding leaves helps the plants conserve energy and prepare for the next growing season. Rest assured, your shrubs will wake up and thrive again when it's time in your growing zone. Dormancy is how they prepare for a healthy, vibrant comeback as the seasons change!

Care:  Fertilize with Proven Winners Continuous Release Plant Food in spring and mid-summer. Prefers well-drained soil that does not remain soggy for any amount of time. To prune, simply cut back by one-third of its total height every spring, just as new growth begins to emerge on stems. Make cuts just about 1/4 of an inch above a bud. Dead or damaged wood can be removed at any time.
