Alocasia Ivory Coast has beautiful, arrowhead-shaped, deep green leaves with slim, white to silver veins. The petioles are a beautifully contrasting pinkish color, striped with brown. This variety provides a tropical punch of color and a bit of drama to rooms with moderate to bright indirect light. Unlike most other tropical species, this alocasia grows in clumps vertically instead of horizontally, putting out new leaves slightly above the previous layer.
- 3-4 feet tall and 2-3 feet wide at maturity
- Prefers high humidity with temperatures between 60-85 F
- Requires medium light, near east/west facing windows but no direct sun
- Maintains arrowhead-shaped dark green leaves with white/silver veins that are supported by pink and brown petioles
- Great for humid spaces, bright spaces, kitchens, bathrooms, sunporches
- Variegated foliage, foliage interest, low-light tolerant
Care Information
- Temperature: For optimal performance, keep at 60-85°F (15-29°C).
- Humidity: Alocasias also would appreciate higher humidity, so break out that humidifier.
- Light: Alocasia does best with bright indirect light, but will benefit from some early morning or late day sun indoors (right in front of an eastern or western window), particularly during wintertime. You may need to use a grow light during dark winter months, or move them to a sunnier window during that time.
- Soil: It prefers to be consistently moist, but not wet and needs to have good drainage. It can't take wet soil, but also doesn't tolerate dry soils well. A well draining soil is necessary and the plant should not be allowed to sit in water. All-purpose potting mixes with additional orchid bark and perlite added is a beneficial medium for Alocasias.
- Watering: Allow the top inch or so to dry out before watering again.
- Growing: Feed once per month at half strength when plant is actively growing.
- Leaves: If your plant drops it's leaves don't give up. (These plants like very consistent conditions overall when it comes to watering, temperature, and light.) Alocasias grow from bulb-like corms and can sprout new leaves under the right conditions.
